Resident Evil 2 hack

I want to work on a Resident Evil 2 hack for the playstation. But I can't get a modded game to start. It boots but never starts. If I leave the game files unaltered and burn it to CD, it works fine. But the moment I change something, it does not boot.

I am using psx2hd to rip the files from the CD, Buildcd to make an image, stripiso to create a bootable psx images (with the copy b/ command).

Can anyone help?

IsoBuster + Nero Burning Rom
Never failed on me. There was a program that let you know which protection is on the CD so you can bypass it but I don't remember the name of the app.

Did you use those program to boot a modified game? In other words, did you rip the files with isobuster, alter the game, then made an image and burned it with nero?

I'm not sure about this but when reading the facts about CD protection in Blindwrite a while back it mentioned something about new copy protections which read where certain spots on the CD are just like the bios file in a PS game is always in the same place. Some of the new protections use a method where certain data is always at the EXACT place it was place originally in different areas of an entire CD not just at the beginning or the location of the very last bit.

Could you have changed the size of the original game enough in certain areas where it would move some other data on the CD to another location thus giving basically a checksum error but with copyprotection or even like a table that is looking for something in a certain place but it is not in that exact location because your hack has moved it slightly. Maybe you even removed something that was essencial or is referred to in a table/config/ whatever and it can't find it so nothing works.

I know virtually nothing about roms but I do know they need to be setup in certain ways and that's what I'm basically getting at. Like some games I tried to burn a few years ago needed a 600 MB cd or they did not work at all while the 2nd CD had to be 650 MB and I believe that was the original Diablo 2 with secure cd protection which is a total pain in the ass for making backups if you didn't have the most up to date CD burner and software combination.

I hope you do figure this out. I'ld like to try a hack for that game. <img src=smilies/thumb.gif>

You need psx2hd only to modify a FMV (normally *.str), you can drag & drop all other file to your hd without problems.
I use cdmage beta to reinsert the modified files.

I use psx2hd because it creates a CTI file. Mind giving me more info on your method?
