ok guys, really

But don't you think that it would work better if it properly embraced the realities of the current Semantic Web?

I'm not sure what you mean by "embracing the realities of the current Semantic Web" but as Reaper man pointed out, IRC is simply a protocol like any other. This allows for a great deal of flexibility from the client end. While traditional clients such as mIRC exist and are still widely used, there is nothing stopping you from using a client such as Trillian Astra or Colloquy that provides a more "modern" experience.

One of my favorite things about IRC is that it's maintained as an open protocol and that it's not wholly-owned and operated by a single commercial entity. I think that in itself gives IRC an advantage that most so-called Web 2.0 services can't offer.

Look, you're pretty much just saying the same thing over and over again, only phrased differently. You're saying that IRC, a simple communications tool, should be more like social networking etc. When asked why, you just repeat your opinion. As far as I can tell, don't like IRC because it's not:
social networking
web 2.0
folksonomies
user-generated content
podcasting
RedTube
The Blogosphere

Really? RedTube? Seriously?

Anyways, you have no reasoning and are blindly saying that anything that isn't all shiny and new is shit.

I remember when I worked retail back in my highschool/university days we used to have these training sessions that were full of such horrible horrible buzz words. But the retail buzzwords have the added bonus of being patronizing. And it wasn't even that the management was stupid, they just thought that using ridiculous terminology was the best way to encourage the employees (who they thought were stupid).

I used to be in #zophar.

There were 5 people there.

They never talked.

Except for Lillymon, who would periodically scream "THIS CHANNEL IS FULL OF COCKS."

Now I don't go to #zophar.

If people are there and actually talking then tell me. I will come back.

Well, sometimes there are, but if everyone will only join once it is more active, it will never get more active. I just sign on whenever i'm going to be here for a while and see if anyone is there.

I haven't been online for two months because I had some things to attend to. I did stop by once but then... well let's just say life happens.
