Don't buy Saitek Controllers!! They are junk!!

Hey folks!! I just wanted to warn you guys not to buy the same piece of junk controller that I did. I bought the Saitek P880 Dual Analog Controller last month at Circuit City for around $20. After only a month of normal use, the directional-pad (D-Pad) broke right off!! Apparently, it was made of cheap plastic (instead of rubber) that breaks off under normal thumb pressure. Because it takes about a month for this to happen, it's enough time for the warranty to expire--hence, I got ripped off!! This is how these folks are making their money (CHEATING PEOPLE). Don't buy Saitek stuff... You have been warned.

I have that exact model sitting in my drawer here. My experience with it has been mediocre. It's still in one piece and it works, but I wouldn't say the performance is great. You're probably better off doing what bmecoli said.

Haha, me too, as it happens. I'm happy enough with it, although the software button mapping could be far better. Still, it's certainly doing the job for N64 emulation.

Indeed, a PSX controller is perfect for anything aside from N64 emulation (since that controller was so strange to begin with). Regardless of what adapter (Or controller, for that matter) you choose to use, JoyToKey is the only thing you need as far as programming the buttons. If you're running any NT based operating system above NT4, it'll work with anything you'll throw at it. (9x is supported, but anything that uses DirectInput won't recognize the key emulation).

I map a ps2 controller for n64 games this way:
Left Analog=N64 Analog
Right Analog U D L R=N64 Yellow Buttons UDLR
Digital Pad=Digital Pad
L1=L, R1=R
Z=R2
Start=Start
XO=BA

Works nicely and intuitive this way

Not a chance in hell. The PS2 controller is ideal, that's why the design hasn't changed at all from the original PSX.

The Xbox controller is huge and the buttons are laid-out in the most non-intuitive positions. Who ever came up with the idea of the "back", "black" and "white" buttons should be shot. The start (pause) button requires that you remove your finger from the control stick and only having two shoulder buttons is pretty lame too. You might as well buy an MS Sidewinder for your PC (which my old Logitech Wingman rocks).

if interact is still in business, then they are my nemisis. their controlers look functional and comfortable...BUT they suck the ass, i have this gigantor controller from them for the ps2 (yeah i know, sony controllers are the best) when the dual shock motors come on, it sounds like an earthquake.

god i hope they aren't in business anymore. their PS2 gamesharks weren't even that great anyway.

logitechs are decent, though the D-pad on the controller is a bit on the sensitive side on the lower section of it, but its otherwise fine.

where could i get a good ps2 to usb adaptor anyway? and what brands are good?
